| | Subject: | Monday - A Day of Ups and Downs | | Time: | 07:25 am |
|
| On my driving lesson today I managed to do bay parking first time spot on. Big yippeee!
However, walking with hubby to pick up the car from the mechanics I had obviously forgotten how to walk as I went bum over head. Just to make it better I landed in some stingy nettles. I now have a itchy nose and hands, a sore, scraped knee and a foot with a nice big swolen lump on the side.
As I said, a day of ups and downs. | comments: Leave a comment |

| I am very pleased to report that my mother in law continues to do well and has now moved from the hospital into a nursing home. She was initaially frigtened and confused but has now settled down quite a bit and has brightened up a lot.
Hubby has been exhausted trying to sort out her house as it will need to be sold. He has found it very draining. Hopefully she will continue to do well at the home.

|
| I seem to be suffering from blogitis so this one will mainly take the form of pictures.
These pictures are of the Italian Chapel near Sanday. It is stunning. That is not stonework you see on the inside, it is all painted.
This was a simple building which Italian POW's turned into this stunning chapel during WW2.

It is heartwarming that out of such horror something so beautiful can be built. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |

| | Subject: | Holiday Blog 4 - Ferrys | | Time: | 02:19 pm |
|
| Our first ferry took us to Kirkwall where we had a few hours to kill before our second ferry trip of the day. Kirkwall is a delightful small town on Mainland where we hunted for wellies for hubby so that we could go for walks. We also visited a small wireless(radio) museum. Despite the size of the museum it was pack with all sorts of radios, record players and other communications devices.
Our second ferry trip took us to the isle of Sanday which is where our friends live. I cannot do the scenery justice. So much nature cramed into such a small island. It was so quiet and peaceful. The house of our friends was a beautiful rambling single storey building surrounded in stunning land. There were nooks and cranies everywhere.

| | Subject: | Holiday Blog 3 - Dunfermline to John O' Groats | | Time: | 03:51 am |
|
| Not too much to say here. We mananged to do the journey in a suprisingly quick time given the distance. The scenery was amazing. They have proper hills in Scotland. We did stop at an amzing cafe called Rala Cafe in Newtonmore. The staff were very polite and friendly and the food was very good. They even did free refills for tea which suprised me.
We were getting a ferry the next day from Gills Bay to St Magaret's the next day so we found out where exactly the ferry was going from before we went hunting for a hotel for the night. We settled on The Seaview Hotel in John O' Groats which was a fantastic hotel with very plesant staff and good sized rooms. Their food was also excellent.
Despite being rather windy we were blessed with good weather so we wondered around for a bit and found a gift shop which did some very good things mixed in with the usual tourist related items.
Enough rambling from me on that subject for now. Take care all. | comments: Leave a comment |
| | Subject: | Holiday Blog 2 - Rosyth, Dunfermline and Edinburgh Castle | | Time: | 03:15 pm |
|
| Having arrived tired and hungry my beloved took me to a fantastic Chinese restaurant where I discovered that I love seaweed and then we retired for the night. The following morning we decided to do touristy things and Edinburgh castle seemed the best place to start. I felt sorry for hubby as he has done the castle several times before.
We took the train to Edinburgh and made our way to the castle. We were in luck as the National Trust(the people who look after the castle) were doing a weekend of free admission so we got in for free.
We spend a good few hours there trying to look for all the little nooks and crannys where all the really interesting bits can normally be found and we found many of them. We also stayed for the 1 O'clock cannon being fired, which was loud and made me jump. We had a good time and the castle displays and talks were very good.
After all that we were very knackered so we stopped in a pub for a rest and some nosh and then got the train back to Rosyth and relaxed, ate some more and watched Doctor Who.

| | Subject: | Holiday Blog 1 - Getting to Dunfirmlin, Scotland | | Time: | 10:27 am |
|
| I had to get two trains from our humble abode to Dunfermlin and was suprised that the first one was actually on time. When I changed train normal business had resumed and the train was delayed from departure.
I had reserved my seats on both trains and there were no problems with the first one. However, on the second train someone was in my seat. Being a coward and a sap because he was elderly I let it go and found another seat. This led me to have to change seats two more times. By this point I was annoyed and decided to go and claim my seat back. When I got to my seat the old man had left so I ended up ousting an innocent chap from my seat but he didn't mind.
It turns out that the old man was a serial seat stealer. I got chatting to the man sitting next to me and the old man had also stole his seat. I'm glad I reclaimed my seat as the gent I ended up sitting next to was lovely and we had a good old natter for the rest of journey. At Edinborough I was met by my beloved and we took another train to Dunfermlin.
Despite this the journey was pretty good and untraumatic. I am getting better with these new fangled train things.
That's enough rambling from me for now. Part 2 to come. | comments: Leave a comment |

| Even out here in the Orkney islands(off Scotland) we have an internet connection. I should be able to check in once a day while we are here.
Take care all. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
